The Northside Community Guest Home Foundation will be holding an Art Gala on June 15, 7-9pm in the Guest Home?s main lobby and main lounge as well as a Resident Art Auction June 8?15.
The Guest Home?s Community Painting Club called The Painting Caras, lead by Erma Carmichael, meet each Thursday to paint together and lean on each other (and Erma!) for painting tips. The painting club members donate each week toward the Guest Home?s Foundation and have so far raised approximately $6000 to put toward a new bladder scanner worth $12,000. The purchase of a bladder scanner for residents of the Guest Home will help to reduce the need for invasive diagnostics, assist in diagnosing illnesses, and will help prevent trips to the Emergency Room. The Painting Caras have also donated needed supplies for the Home?s resident painting program.
To honour this generous group of painters, the guest home have created The Painting Caras Art Gallery displaying their creations and giving the public an opportunity to purchase these beautiful works of art. An Art Gala will take place to close their Winter/Spring painting season. This Gala will celebrate the Art Gallery which includes works of art for sale by the Painting Caras along with other Northside painters. This event will also mark the close of a weeklong auction of residents? paintings. The residents of the Northside Community Guest Home have been active painting with their program leaders, Erma Carmichael and Mary Lee Jackson, and their incredible works of art, along with paintings by Carmichael and Jackson, will be up for bidding from Friday, June 8 to Friday, June 15.
Funds raised at the Resident Auction will go toward the Complete the Dream campaign. The campaign goal is to raise $300,000 for additional equipment, furnishings and activity items in Cara House, its new 39-bed, long term care unit which services all 144 Residents.

Since 1995, WGO has had a hard-core crew of regular writers who would sometimes put stories together from various sources or cut and paste information from press releases. There is usually very little actual writing involved in these operations, but someone's gotta do the cutting and pasting and assembling. WGO staff is that someone.
